FAQs

Can I volunteer for Brisbane Festival?

Yes. Applications will open online in May 2010 for Brisbane Festival 2010.  More information about the types of positions availalbe is in the Volunteers section of this website.

Will the F111’s feature in this year’s Festival?

The F111’s have appeared in many events around Australia including Brisbane Festival's QBE Riverfire. Brisbane Festival may approach the Australian Defence Force to request involvement for the Festival in 2010.  We are unable to advise about the availability of the F111’s for the event as the aircraft are the responsibility of the Australian Defence Force and any involvement is always subject to their operational requirements.

Brisbane Festival’s programme will be released later in the year.  If you would like to keep up to date with all the news, register for the Festival enews.

Where are the best viewing points for QBE Riverfire?

Good viewing points can be found from any high vantage point that provides a view of the City or South Bank or along the Brisbane River from the Story Bridge to South Bank. Locations include; South Bank, Kangaroo Point Cliffs,
City Botanical Gardens and Captain Burke Park.

Will roads be closed for QBE Riverfire?

Road closures will be implemented in the City, Fortitude Valley, Kangaroo Point and South Bank precincts for QBE Riverfire. The Victoria Bridge, Story Bridge and Goodwill Bridge will also be closed for parts of the night. More information will be available at the Brisbane Festival website closer to the date of the event.

Will South Bank be fenced for QBE Riverfire?

For safety and security reasons, South Bank will be fenced for QBE Riverfire. Several ‘entry gates’ will be established at South Bank. When the venue has reached capacity, it will be closed. QBE Riverfire patrons are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Can I take opened bottled drinks into South Bank for QBE Riverfire?

No. Please do not bring glass, alcohol and drink bottles with broken seals, including bottles of water or softdrink to South Bank. These items will be confiscated by South Bank security staff. QBE Riverfire at South Bank is an alcohol-free event.

Can I take my dog to South Bank for QBE Riverfire?

No. Dogs are usually welcome at South Bank but will not be permitted in the parklands for QBE Riverfire. See the pet section below for recommendations on keeping your pets safe during the fireworks display.

I want to view the fireworks display from my boat on the Brisbane River. How can I get permission to do so?

For public safety reasons, Marine Safety Queensland closes a section of the Brisbane River leading into and during QBE Riverfire.  Regulations are put in place to manage any spectator fleet attending the event. For previous events, this has included three dedicated and resticted mooring zones in the Town and South Brisbane Reaches of the River.  In these zones, a strictly limited number of spectator vessels are permitted and this is regulated through the provision of official boat flags.   Boat Flags are free and strictly limited in numbers.

More information about any process to apply for a position within the closed section of the Brisbane River for 2010 will be available at this website in June 2010.

There are also opportunities to view QBE Riverfire from the River with a number of Brisbane’s commercial charter operators.

Will there be additional public transport services for QBE Riverfire?

Additional Citytrain and Brisbane Transport Bus services will operate to and from QBE Riverfire. For further information about timetabled services, fares, temporary stops and additional services visit the Translink website www.translink.com.au or call 13 12 30.

Will there be enough toilets for patrons during QBE Riverfire?

Brisbane Festival provides temporary toilet facilities at various locations including Kangaroo Point and the Fortitude Valley. We recommend that you time your visits well and take up every opportunity to go!

What should I do with my pet on Riverfire night?

Pets can become frightened at the sound of fireworks and might try to escape the noise.

Here are some tips to ensure your animals are safe and secure:

  • Contain your animal in your house or garage overnight; ensure there is a comfortable bed, plenty of water and some food.
  • It is advisable to close the curtains and turn on the TV or radio to provide some distraction.
  • Leave your pet with a friend or family member who is not going out.
  • Ensure your pet wears appropriate identification at all times, just in case they do escape.
  • If your dog becomes distressed during fireworks or thunder, speak to your local veterinarian as they may be able to recommend something to help keep animals calm.
