South Bank is a popular place for families to watch QBE Riverfire. The venue is fenced for public safety and will be closed once capacity is reached. Arrive early and enjoy the Australian Defence Force Open Day from 12noon.
Please do not bring bikes and scooters, glass, alcohol and drink bottles with broken seals, including bottles of water or softdrink to South Bank. These items will be confiscated by South Bank security staff. QBE Riverfire at South Bank is an alcohol-free event.
Kangaroo Point Cliffs, Victoria Bridge, City Riverwalk (including Riverside Centre and Eagle Street Pier), Captain Burke Park and Wilson's Lookout offer alternative vantage points. All these sites offer food and beverages for sale.
For people who have limited mobility, access is available at South Bank, Eagle Street Pier, Riverside Centre, City Botanical Gardens and Captain Burke Park. Download the QBE Riverfire Vantage Points Map.
There will be road closures affecting the City, South Bank, West End, Kangaroo Point and Fortitude Valley areas from midday. Please download the Road and Bridge Closures PDF or go to the QBE Riverfire page for more information.
Brisbane City Council is offering motorists the chance to use Go Between Bridge for free during Riverfire with the toll being waived between 12noon and 12midnight this Saturday 4 September. With traffic lane closures on other inner city bridges during Saturday’s event, including the Story and Victoria bridges, Go Between Bridge will provide an alternative route for those travelling to and from the South Bank precinct. While closures on other bridges are expected to cause some delays this weekend, having access to Go Between Bridge’s additional cross-river lanes will mean Riverfire fans will be able to get out of the area easier than in previous years. With direct access to the Inner City Bypass and Coronation Drive, Go Between Bridge can get motorists out of the popular precinct and on their way home quicker. The bridge’s dedicated pedestrian and cycle pathways are also a great way to get to and from the cultural precinct and offer a popular vantage point for the fireworks. If you are travelling to and from South Bank for the fireworks Council encourages you to plan your trip using public transport, where possible. To find out more, call 13 12 30 or visit www.translink.com.au. Please go to this page for more information about QBE Riverfire.
For safety and security reasons, South Bank will be fenced for QBE Riverfire. Several ‘entry gates’ will be established at South Bank. When the venue has reached capacity, it will be closed. QBE Riverfire patrons are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment. More information about QBE Riverfire is located here.
No. Please do not bring glass, alcohol and drink bottles with broken seals, including bottles of water or softdrink to South Bank. These items will be confiscated by South Bank security staff. QBE Riverfire at South Bank is an alcohol-free event.
No. Dogs are usually welcome at South Bank but will not be permitted in the parklands for QBE Riverfire. See the pet section below for recommendations on keeping your pets safe during the fireworks display.
For public safety reasons, Marine Safety Queensland closes a section of the Brisbane River leading into and during QBE Riverfire. Regulations are put in place to manage any spectator fleet attending the event. This includes three dedicated and resticted mooring zones in the Town and South Brisbane Reaches of the River. In these zones, a strictly limited number of spectator vessels are permitted and this is regulated through the provision of official Entry Permit Flags. All Entry Permit Flags have been distributed for 2010. Information about any process for 2011 will be available on this website in April 2011. There are also opportunities to view QBE Riverfire from the River with a number of Brisbane’s commercial charter operators. We recommend you go to ourbrisbane.com and search for any participating operators.
Additional Citytrain and Brisbane Transport Bus services will operate to and from QBE Riverfire. For further information about timetabled services, fares, temporary stops and additional services visit the Translink website www.translink.com.au or call 13 12 30.
Brisbane Festival provides temporary toilet facilities at various locations including Kangaroo Point and the Fortitude Valley. We recommend that you time your visits well and take up every opportunity to go!
Pets can become frightened at the sound of fireworks and might try to escape the noise.
Here are some tips to ensure your animals are safe and secure:
Contain your animal in your house or garage overnight; ensure there is a comfortable bed, plenty of water and some food.
It is advisable to close the curtains and turn on the TV or radio to provide some distraction.
Leave your pet with a friend or family member who is not going out.
Ensure your pet wears appropriate identification at all times, just in case they do escape.
If your dog becomes distressed during fireworks or thunder, speak to your local veterinarian as they may be able to recommend something to help keep animals calm.
Unfortunately we do not have the resources to answer individual enquiries. Information regarding previous festivals is available in the History section.
Food and beverage vendors will be located at popular QBE Riverfire vantage points including South Bank and Kangaroo Point. Please download the QBE Riverfire Vantage Points Map here.
We recommend you visit www.wotif.com for accommodation options. Remember to book early to avoid disappointment.
