Calling all photographers, theatre buffs, music mavens, aspiring journalists and culture enthusiasts; this September, Queensland locals are invited to become the authentic voice of Brisbane Festival.

Aruga’s Citizen Reviewers at Brisbane Festival will see 10 everyday arts and culture enthusiasts given unprecedented access to the Festival in September, becoming the authentic grassroots voice of the three-week event. Perks include:

  • Double passes and VIP seating to multiple Brisbane Festival events;
  • Exclusive access to artists;
  • Mentoring sessions with some of the biggest names in Queensland’s arts industry;
  • Sharing of your content with Brisbane Festival’s online community of more than 300,000 people.

What is Aruga’s Citizen Reviewers at Brisbane Festival Program?
A brand new hands-on initiative dedicated to connecting burgeoning arts and culture commentators and world-leading artists and performances, the Aruga’s Citizen Reviewers at Brisbane Festival Program will see ten Citizen Reviewers handpicked to review Brisbane Festival events and reflect on their experiences through their chosen medium.

As an Aruga Citizen Reviewer, each individual will receive an enviable array of perks and prizes.

Who is Aruga?
Aruga is one of Queensland’s leading creative communications agencies, and a proud sponsor of Brisbane Festival and the Citizen Reviewer Program. 

I always suffer from FOMO, how do I apply?
Aspiring arts and culture commentators can apply to be selected as a Citizen Reviewer by submitting an original arts review through an array of mediums, including writing, video, podcast, photograph or video, via the Brisbane Festival website.

Is there a limit on the length of submissions?
To get the perfect snapshot of your creative and artistic flair, original reviews are to be limited to:

  • A written submission with a maximum word count of 500 words;
  • A photography submission with a maximum of 3 photos;
  • A podcast with a maximum length of 6 minutes; or
  • A video with a maximum length of 6 minutes.

Who is eligible to enter?
The program is open to all Australian residents over the age of 8.

How long do I have to apply?
Applications will be open for submission from 28 May – 28 June 2018.

How are the entries judged?
Applications will be judged by members of the Brisbane Festival executive team based on numerous criteria including their creativity, quality, audience appeal and ‘wow factor’. 

You mentioned perks?
Apart from the undying adoration of your peers, the entire arts community and the general public, ten lucky entrants will receive a multitude of prizes such as:

  • Sharing of your content on the Brisbane Festival website and social channels;
  • Orientation as part of the Brisbane Festival team and the opportunity to visit Festival HQ during the Festival;
  • A double pass and VIP seating to multiple Festival shows;
  • Festival merchandise;
  • Food & beverage vouchers; and
  • Exclusive mentoring sessions.

The program will also provide Citizen Reviewers with an incredible platform to gain widespread exposure, make invaluable connections and be part of an electrifying 22-day program of events and activities.

When will selected Citizen Reviewers be notified?
The lucky chosen few will be notified by email and telephone on Friday 29 June 2018.

I’m kind of a big deal. If I am selected, what dates will I be required to be available?
Citizen Reviewers will need to be available for the Brisbane Festival Program Launch on 3 July 2018, and the duration of the Festival from 8 – 29 September 2018.

As a Citizen Reviewer, do I have to publish my review?
Absolutely, this will need to occur within 48 hours of attending a Brisbane Festival show.

Will Brisbane Festival definitely publish my review on some or all of its channels?
Brisbane Festival will have the final say regarding which reviews are published.
