Presenting works by eight outstanding early career artists from five countries, Total Nowhere Emotion Expansion explores the internet as human rather than technological phenomena, the internet as lowest common denominator. Trust, titillation, the arbitrary, anxiety, commerce, control, desire for sex; these are the things the internet is made of.
In addition to the cutting edge digital works which form the core of the exhibition, Brisbane Festival has developed the My Favourite Homepage project examining the notion of “virtual home”. Working with the Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre located within the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre, this additional exhibition showcases animation work from young people in juvenile detention.
Audiences can view Total Nowhere Emotion Expansion online via the Brisbane Festival 2009 website and offline via a mobile media art gallery fashioned from a Semi-Trailer. The mobile gallery is touring various Brisbane and South East Queensland locations.
