Take two of the world’s most eclectic musical groups; add a pinch of baroque, a dash of folk and jazz, a whole bunch of energy and the result is a tour de force that has audiences spellbound from start to finish.
The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Paris-based L’Arpeggiata bring their spirited interpretation of traditional songs, beats and vocal and instrumental improvisations from the renaissance and baroque eras to this year’s Brisbane Festival.
The four-time Aria winning Australian Brandenburg Orchestra was founded in 1989 by Artistic Director Paul Dyer and has performed for audiences all over the world. Comprising some of Australia’s leading musicians, the Orchestra uses original edition scores and instruments of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
L’Arpeggiata features Europe’s finest early music performers, directed by Christina Pluhar. The internationally acclaimed ensemble brings a fresh and vibrant interpretation of early musical styles, especially French, Italian and Neapolitan music from the 17th century.
For Brisbane Festival 2010, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and L’Arpeggiata come together to perform Baroque pieces from European composers including Claudio Monteverdi, Emillio de’ Cavalieri and Luigi Rossi.

“The band played on, brilliantly, through song and dance, courtly sonata and gutter song, jazz, folk or baroque – under the direction of Pluhar. Don’t go for baroque elegance but do go for fun.” Sydney Morning Herald “…guest director Christina Pluhar is a visionary of the highest order and she, along with Trovesi, and singer Lucilla Galeazzi brought the house down with their improvised mixture of direct expression and infectious charm.” Limelight
