Brisbane Festival Welcomes Schools!

Inspiring in-theatre excursion opportunities for Term 3.

Brisbane Festival is thrilled to welcome schools into theatres this September. Register your interest now to participate in our in-theatre program and for priority access to incredible curriculum-enhancing productions across primary and secondary Drama, English, Dance and Music!

#Stunt Double

Stunt Doubles put their bodies on the line, while actors reap the glory.

- This productions contains coarse language, adult themes, sexual references, partial nudity and simulated violence as well as the use of haze and strobe effects.

Running time:
- 80 mins (no interval).

Stunt Double is a jaw-dropping immersive theatre experience bringing audiences inside the filming of a 1970s Aussie action flick. Cycling through take after take of high octane stunts; flips, jumps, fights and more; the doubles put their body on the line while the actors reap the glory. In Stunt Double it’s the hardest working people who get paid the least and exploited the most.

Stunt Double is produced by Performing Lines. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government’s Major Festivals initiative, managed by the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body, in association with Darwin Festival, Brisbane Festival, Perth Festival and HOTA. It is further supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, as well as City of the Gold Coast.

Dave Grohl and The Rolling Stones kazoo'd, you can too!

It's time to take a deep breath and join us in breaking the world record for the world's largest Kazoo Orchestra! Get involved by hosting your very own Kazoo Workshop and help create the original kazoo composition that will be played by 10,000 kazoodlers at Brisbane Festival’s closing concert this September. Being a Kazzoodler is easy, no previous skills or experience is required. Simply stick a kazoo in your mouth, with the pointy end to the world, and send some do-do-dos down that tube.

Presented by Brisbane Festival, Brisbane City Council, and Health and Wellbeing Queensland.


#Kuramanunya

A ceremony for those who didn’t get their ceremony.

- This production contains adult themes, themes of violence, genocide, and themes of death and suicide.

Running time:
- 50 minutes.

Thomas E.S. Kelly's new solo work, Kuramanunya, pays tribute to the thousands of First Nation lives lost during colonisation in South East Queensland Countries. Through dance and storytelling, Kelly honours those who fought for land, family, and identity but did not survive to pass on their stories. The performance acknowledges the unwritten and unspoken stories returned to the earth and stars, while highlighting the resilience of First Nations people. Kuramanunya is a powerful and moving tribute to the ancestors and a reminder of the ongoing impact of colonisation on Indigenous communities.

This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

#Tae Tae in the Land of Yaaas!

Tae Tae in the Land of Yaaas! is a new heart-warming tragi-comedy by nationally-acclaimed Shake & Stir Theatre Co.

Inspired by the true story of Estee Lee and written by her sister Nelle Lee, Tae Tae in the Land of Yaaas! is a confronting, honest, heart-warming retelling of Tae’s journey from heartbreaking loss to a life top full of adventure, success and love.

This campy, song-and-dance-filled fairy tale challenges the idea of happily ever after and proves that joy and fulfillment can be found in unexpected places.

A touching and deeply personal work that explores the contradictions of inhabiting two worlds.

It wasn’t until Jodee Mundy was five years old and lost at Kmart that she realised the rest of her family was Deaf. She didn’t see ‘disability’ – only the love and protection of those closest to her. Told using a captivating blend of performance, storytelling, multimedia and animation, Personal is a smart, touching, and often humorous exploration of growing up ‘coda’ – a child of Deaf parents.

This performance is delivered in English, Auslan and is captioned.

Personal is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, it’s arts funding and advisory body, the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and the NSW Government through Create NSW.

#Noise

Uniting rhythm, dance & community

Noise is a gathering, a united force of percussive energy and dance… a powerful reminder of our primal connection to rhythm.

We invite drummers and noisemakers of all abilities, ages, and experience to join us for series of rehearsals, leading to a performance at Brisbane Festival’s Closing Concert on Saturday 23 September 2023 at Victoria Park.
