Throughout September, local favourites Dead Puppet Society are hosting their after-hours maker parties — DPS Social. Join Dead Puppet Society for a night of crafting fun surrounded by like-minded individuals and take home a beautiful, custom-made sculpture. No experience needed — this is the perfect night out for all fun-loving individuals wanting to create something as unique as they are!

There are two unique DPS Social options to choose from:

Mechanical Reef | Thu 11 & Fri 12 Sep | 6:30pm - 9:30pm

This workshop celebrates Australia's iconic and beautiful coral reefs and marine life. Participants will choose the elements of their coral reef landscape and fish, and paint their seascape with ink colours matched to species native to the Great Barrier Reef.

Flapping Butterfly | Thu 17 & Fri 18 Sep | 6:30pm - 9:30pm

This DPS Social is inspired by the iconic Queensland butterfly species that bring beauty and colour to our ecosystem — Queensland’s tourism icon, the Ulysses Butterfly, and two species endemic to Queensland, the Australian Red Lacewing and the Cairns Birdwing. Participants can mix and match the aesthetic elements of their butterfly to create a unique mechanical masterpiece.

In both workshops, you will see the parts of your creation being fabricated on the workshop’s laser cutter. Under the guidance of Dead Puppet Society’s artisans at our Fabrication Workshop, you will assemble your sculpture and construct the mechanism to make it move. Gain an insight into the basic principles of puppet design and the magic and processes that will bring your creation to life.
