Artistic Director

Based in Queensland, Brisbane Festival is regarded as one of the great multi-arts festivals in Australia, celebrated for its courageous and innovative mix of programming, and its broad engagement and connection with the community.
The Brisbane Festival Board seeks an outstanding Artistic Director at an exciting time of change to lead the development and delivery of a vibrant artistic program to shape the future of the Festival and its city, as the state prepares for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Working with the Board and CEO Charlie Cush, the Artistic Director is principally responsible for creating and driving a bold artistic vision and developing a multi-genre annual program which celebrates global relevance and local resonance.
This senior national role requires extensive knowledge of the Queensland, national and international arts landscape, working across a range of genres with the requisite skill, dynamism and ambition to simultaneously achieve tremendous artistic, financial, audience and community outcomes.
This role is unique within the Australian major festival landscape, and several career pathways may lead to it.

Event Staff - EOIs
We are seeking Event Staff to work alongside the Programming and Technical teams to deliver the 2025 Brisbane Festival program.
About you
You are an experienced event worker with skills in front of house, ticket sales, stage management, site management and crew, artist liaison, technical production. You thrive when working in a fast-paced environment and bring a positive attitude to work. You also pay close attention to detail and are a natural problem-solver.

The position
There are a variety of Event Staff positions available from early-August to 27 September. Contracting will commence end of June. If you are considered for a position, you will be contacted directly by a member of the Programming or Technical teams.

Capacity Building Program
These positions are part of the Brisbane Festival capacity building program, supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, that provides paid opportunities for emerging arts workers to develop their skills alongside leading artists and arts workers. Assistant Project Coordinators - Access | AQ Capacity Building
Support the Creative Producer and Associate Producer to successfully coordinate the planning and delivery of delegated program areas.
Position Summary
Brisbane Festival are recruiting two (2) Assistant Project Coordinators to join the Brisbane Festival Production and/or Programming team, working on planning and delivery of the 2025 Brisbane Festival program across a range of sites, venues and contexts. The Assistant Project Coordinators will report to the relevant Creative Producers and Associate Producers and gain practical experience in the production of in-theatre works.
d/Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent persons are encouraged to apply.
The Assistant Project Coordinators will work within the Brisbane Festival Programming team across various productions in programming and/or production roles.
We're Looking For
1. A team player who is passionate about the arts, events and safety
2. Who has a willingness to adapt to a proven system of production and technical practice
3. Who's work experience or studies are relevant to production of arts events and festivals
4. Has work experience or studies relevant to production of arts events and festivals with a proven track record in working with d/Deaf and disabled artists or on disability led projects.
5. And Who has relevant experience in disability inclusions and accessibility.

Production Placement - Access | AQ Capacity Building
Support the Creative Producer and Associate Producer to successfully coordinate the planning and delivery of delegated program areas.
Position Summary
Brisbane Festival is recruiting for a Production Placement to join the Brisbane Festival Programming team, working on planning and delivery of the 2025 Brisbane Festival program.
The Production Placement will report to the Creative Producer and gain practical experience in the production of large scale works. d/Deaf, disabled or neurodivergent persons are strongly encouraged to apply. The Production Placement will work within the Brisbane Festival Programming team across various productions in programming and/or production roles.
The role will commence in July, 2-3 days per week – up to 8hrs per day. This will increase to 3-4 days per week in August and September. Total days and hours worked per week will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
We're Looking For

2. Who has a willingness to adapt to a proven system of production and technical practice
3. Experience in seeking out industry trends and advancements in performing arts focused accessible technology and best practice
4. Work experience or studies relevant to production of arts events and festivals
5. Work experience or studies relevant to technical production, lighting/sound/video design, systems design, venue management or production/stage/company management.
6. Work experience or studies relevant to production of arts events and festivals with a proven track record in working with d/Deaf and disabled artists or on disability led projects.
7. Relevant experience in disability inclusions and accessibility.

Brisbane Festival is recruiting for an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Sound Design Assistant to join the Brisbane Festival production team.
Position Summary
The role will work closely with award-winning Sound Designer, Guy Webster, and esteemed artist and story-teller Shannon Ruska on the planning and delivery of a range of Brisbane Festival projects.
The role will commence in mid-late July on a part time basis, with hours increasing in August for delivery of the 2025 Brisbane Festival – contracted hours to be negotiated with the candidate in due course.

Position Summary
The Technical Production Placement will report to the Production Manager and gain practical experience in the production on a large scale international work in the 2025 Brisbane Festival program.
This position is a part of the Brisbane Festival capacity building program, supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, that provides paid opportunities for emerging arts workers to develop their skills alongside leading artists and arts workers.
The role will commence early-mid August. Periods of engagement will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis for each placement.
We're Looking For

Video Design Assistant - First Nations | AQ Capacity Building
Brisbane Festival is recruiting for an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Video Design Assistant Placement to join the Brisbane Festival production team.
