Sunsuper Riverfire returns on Saturday 25 September as the finale to ignite our skyline and wrap up an incredible three weeks of Brisbane Festival for another year!

In order to safely deliver this event there will be road, bridge and river closures.

#Transport

Patrons are encouraged to use public transport. Additional train, bus and ferry services will operate on the night.

Free public transport will be available for two hours from 7.15pm from the following locations on rail and bus services to assist in clearing spectators from the event.

Rail: South Bank, South Brisbane, Roma Street and Central stations
Buses: Woolloongabba, Mater Hill, South Bank, Cultural Centre, Queen Street, King George Square and Roma Street busway stations.

The Go Between Bridge will be toll free from 2.55pm to 11.05pm.

#Access to South Bank car parks

QPAC, Queensland Museum and the State Library: After 07:00 access to the QPAC, Queensland Museum and the State Library is only be available via Stanley Place (note: height restriction of 2.3m applies). All vehicles exiting from these car parks must exit via Stanley Place. 

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre: Access via Merivale Street only, all day. 

South Bank Car Park: entry and exit until 7:15pm is available via Glenelg Street.  Entry and exit available via Tribune Street until 4:00pm. After 4:00pm no entry is available from Tribune Street, exit only until approximately 10:00pm when Grey Street is clear of pedestrians. Glenelg Street Entry: Entry and exit until 19:15. After 19:15 Exit ONLY is controlled by Police, until approximately until 21:30 or when Grey Street is clear of pedestrians. Tribune Street Entry: Entry and exit until 16:00. Exit ONLY after 16:00 until approximately 21:30 or when Grey Street is clear of pedestrians.


#Access to South Bank accommodation

Rydges Hotel 

  • No vehicular access to Grey Street from 16:00 to 23:00. All guests arriving must proceed via Merivale or Cordelia Streets to Glenelg Street
  • Access/egress for all hotel guests will be via the access point in Glenelg Street near the Railway Bridge up until 18:15
  • After 18:15 no access will be available to Glenelg Street until approximately 21:30 or when Grey Street is clear of pedestrians.
  • After 18:15 guests requiring Taxis must proceed to the BCEC taxi rank in Glenelg Street at Merivale Street. 

Mantra Hotel 

  • No vehicular access to Grey Street from 16:00 to 23:00. All guests arriving must proceed via Merivale or Cordelia Streets to Glenelg Street.
  • Access/egress for all hotel guests will be via the access point in Glenelg Street near the Railway Bridge up until 18:15.
  • After 18:15 no access will be available to Glenelg Street until approximately 21:30 when Grey Street is clear of pedestrians.
  • After 18:15 guests requiring Taxis must proceed to the BCEC taxi rank in Glenelg Street at Merivale Street. 

South Bank Cinemas and Thiess Building ·    

  • No vehicular access will be available to Ernest Street from 18:15 until approximately 21:30 or when Grey Street is clear of pedestrians.
  • All staff, guests and cinema goers requiring Taxis must proceed to the BCEC taxi rank in Glenelg Street at Merivale Street. 

199 Grey Street and Emporium Hotel

  • No vehicular access from Grey Street after 16:00.
  • Between 1600 and 16:30 guests are able to access via Tribune Street only. 
  • No vehicular access between 16:30 and 21:30 or until Grey Street is clear of pedestrians 

#Taxi ranks

City

  • Until 4pm the rank in George Street (opposite Treasury Casino) will operate but taxis will only be allowed to feed into the rank from George Street. A feeder rank will be established in George Street between Elizabeth and Charlotte Streets.
  • From approximately 4pm when George Street closes between Elizabeth Street and Burnett Lane the head of the rank will relocate to approaching Elizabeth Street with taxis only allowed to turn right from George into Elizabeth Street.
  • All other City Ranks will operate as normal.

South Bank

The Mantra Hotel

  • The taxi ranks in Grey Street outside Mantra Hotel approaching Glenelg Street will be closed for pick-ups ALL DAY. Taxis will however be permitted to deliver clients to the Mantra Hotel Rank until 4pm. Passengers requiring a Taxi must proceed to the BCEC taxi rank and signage will be erected at the Mantra Hotel Rank redirecting passengers to the BCEC Rank in Glenelg Street at Merivale Street.

BCEC

  • The BCEC taxi rank in Glenelg Street at Merivale Street will operate as usual all day.

QPAC

  • The taxi ranks in Grey Street outside QPAC will be closed for pick-ups ALL DAY. Taxis will however be permitted to deliver clients to the QPAC Rank until 4pm. Passengers requiring a Taxi must proceed to the BCEC taxi rank and signage will be erected at the QPAC Rank redirecting passengers to the BCEC Rank in Glenelg Street at Merivale Street.
  • Taxis will be able to set down in the Stanley Place (outside GOMA) or in the Street Tunnel near the Museum Car Park. (note: height restriction of 2.3m applies).

Other South Brisbane Precinct Ranks

  • The ranks in Gibbon Street approaching Stanley Street, Stanley Street between Hubert and Reid Streets, Annerley Road outside the Mater Hospital, Raymond Terrace approaching Stanley Street outside Mater Children’s and Raymond Terrace opposite Hancock Street will operate as per normal.

#Brisbane river

The Brisbane River will be closed on Saturday 25 September between Mowbray Park, East Brisbane and the Go Between Bridge, Milton from 5pm to 8:45pm to all traffic other than enforcement agencies’ vessels and those with approved Aquatic Entry Flags. 

CityCat and KittyCat Services

Due to the popularity of the CityCat, it is recommended patrons travel early to avoid delays and disappointment 

CityCat/KittyCat: Additional CityCat services will operate on the day and cease operations between 6:30pm and 7:30pm, except for the QUT CityCat terminal which closes at 4:00pm and remains closed until the resumption of services on Sunday 26 September. 

KittyCat: the Holman Street – Riverside and the Inner CityFerry (CityHopper) services will cease operations between 6:30pm and 8:00pm.

CityHoppers will not stop at South Bank from 4:00pm till 9:00. Passengers wishing to travel South Bank at that time should disembark at Maritime Museum to enter via the Stanley Street entrance or at North Quay and enter via the Victoria Bridge.
