The undeniable highlight of the Ballroom calendar.

The annual Alexander Ball is back to reignite the Ballroom scene in Magandjin as part of Brisbane Festival. The iconic competition is once again curated by the legendary Ella Ganza, a Samoan-Māori trans woman of colour and Mother to the trailblazing House of Alexander.

Ballroom was started in Harlem, NYC, in the 1970s by trans women of colour, and the culture and passion of the scene have found their way to Australian shores. The event showcases diverse ‘walkers’ from across Australia and internationally, competing to win the Grand Prize in one of multiple categories. The ball serves as a platform for self-expression, resilience, and cultural pride, forming a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community.

House of Alexander

The Undeniable House of Alexander is Magandjin’s trailblazing ballroom house, founded in 2019 by Legendary Double Trailblazing Founding Mother Ella Ganza (ballroom daughter of International Overall Founding Father, Icon Javier Martine Rose) alongside First Nations leader, Joshua Taliani, Founding Father of the House of Alexander. Born from the Black and Latinx LGBTQIA+ communities of Harlem, New York, ballroom emerged as a powerful act of resistance, self-expression, and chosen family for those excluded from mainstream society. More than a dance form or competition, ballroom is a living cultural movement that celebrates identity, artistry, resilience, and community.
