Amplified: The Exquisite Rock and Rage of Chrissy Amphlett

Presented by Brisbane Festival in association with Brisbane Powerhouse

It’s a fine line between pleasure and pain.

A live-wire journey through the words and music of the Divinyls' Chrissy Amphlett, the rebel-queen of Australian rock.

Chrissy Amphlett was a seismic force in a school uniform. She had the raw talent, stage-conquering energy, and the rock’n’roll rasp. Her audacious blend of sexuality and vulnerability defined a generation. As the front woman for the Divinyls, she exploded onto the male-dominated scene, taking the band from the sticky carpets of Australian pubs to the top of the charts.

Now, beloved performer and writer Sheridan Harbridge (Prima Facie) fronts the band in an electrifying new cabaret that channels Chrissy's fierce spirit through anecdotes and songs. Co-created with multi-award-winning director Sarah Goodes (Julia), Amplified: The Exquisite Rock and Rage of Chrissy Amphlett takes audiences on a kaleidoscopic tour through the eyes of fans and people who knew Chrissy and into the heart of an artist well ahead of her time.

Glenn Moorhouse

Glenn has enjoyed a rich and colourful 25 year career in the Australian music industry. As musical director, Glenn brought the punk ethos of Green Day’s American Idiot to the nation as well as developing the new Australian musical Dubbo Championship Wrestling, co-arranging with long time friend and musical ally Joe Accaria to produce one of the most exciting scores in contemporary Australian music theatre.

Teaming up with writer James Millar he has composed the music for the upcoming musical Lil Elvis Jones and The Truckstoppers, a staged version of the 90s Australian kids animation.
