Bad Nature
As technology evolves, our relationship with nature transforms.
Brisbane Festival exclusive, Bad Nature, combines awe-inspiring movement, multisensory design, international collaboration, couture, and more to push the boundaries of perception.
Australasian Dance Collective (ADC) and the Netherlands’ Club Guy & Roni (CGR) bring together an international team of celebrated creatives, including multidisciplinary artists Boris Acket, Maison the Faux, and HIIIT, in this epic world premiere that looks unflinchingly at our relationship to our environment and to one another.
The thrilling dance project, led by ADC Artistic Director Amy Hollingsworth and Associate Artistic Director Jack Lister alongside Guy Weizman and Roni Haver of CGR, will see an extraordinary ensemble of 12 dancers — six from ADC and six from CGR — perform alongside two HIIIT musicians and an independent Australian percussionist.
World-renowned Dutch designer Boris Acket creates the synthetic world of Bad Nature, with transformative environments that blend sound, light, and kinetic sculptures to mimic the natural world. These hypnotic installations morph and mutate throughout the performance, heightening the sense of change and volatility in a striking portrayal of our world, serving as both a canvas and a container for the performers. The costumes of the 12 performers have been designed by fashion house Maison the Faux.
Bad Nature is a production of great scale and ambition, reflecting the best and worst of humanity. Confronting and tender, this unmissable work is rich with allegories of control, love, destruction, and ultimately, hope.

Artists
Australasian Dance Collective
Australasian Dance Collective is one of the nation’s leading contemporary dance companies.
Established in 1984 as Expressions Dance Company by Maggi Sietsma AM, the company has created more than 180 works by 80 national and international choreographers. Harnessing the talent of an extraordinary ensemble of six dancers, the company has achieved significant recognition through national awards, including three Helpmann Awards and three Australian Dance Awards.
Club Guy & Roni
Guy Weizman and Roni Haver start their career as dancers in the Bat Sheva Ensemble in Tel Aviv. They then dance in different companies in Europe, including Ultima Vez in Brussels (Wim Vandekeybus) and Lanonima Imperial in Barcelona (Juan Carlos Garcia). In 1998 they are taken to Groningen by choreographer Itzik Galili. They dance for three years with his company Galili Dance and make their first choreographies.
They set up Club Guy & Roni in 2002 and from that time on they tour with full-length productions both at home and abroad. From home base Groningen they build a quirky repertoire, with performances that far exceed the genre ‘dance’. The Club wants to bring dancers and other artists from around the world together to create a melting pot of ideas.
Boris Acket
Boris Acket, a contemporary artist and composer, works with sound, light, and motion, exploring the interplay between control and surrender in the (natural) world. Initially rooted in electronic music and club culture, Acket‘s practice evolved to challenge the boundaries between sound art, music, and performance space, often blurring distinctions between exhibitions and club experiences.
His recent shift towards recontextualizing nature in art spaces was influenced by encounters with acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton and sociologist Riyan van den Born in 2020. Acket‘s work now offers sanctuary and ritualistic encounters, while also hinting at dystopian narratives of our future interactions with the (natural) world.
