Yalanji trio, The Briscoe Sisters, bring language and song to the stage with a powerful, grounded presence and a lively conversation.
Moderated by Professor Chelsea Watego, The Briscoe Sisters share with the audience how inspiration flows across generations, reflecting on legacy, identity, and the deep Cultural connections that shape their artistry.
Celebrating over two decades in the industry, they were recognised early as Port Fairy Folk Festival’s Maton Young Talent of the Year (2005) and Top 4 Deadlys New Talent (2004). They have toured nationally to major festivals and events, including CIAF, Tandanya Spirit Festival, and a featured performance alongside Yothu Yindi Band at Yarrabah Music Festival (2018).
In 2024, they reunited for a sold-out performance in the Utzon Room at the Sydney Opera House on Gadigal Country. Most recently, they have become festival favourites at both the prestigious Woodford Folk Festival and the beloved Cygnet Folk Festival, captivating audiences with their soulful, healing sound.
Fusing rich sibling harmonies with Yalanji spirituality, their voices carry Country, Culture and deep Connection.

Professor Chelsea Watego
Professor Chelsea Watego (formerly Bond) is a Munanjahli and South Sea Islander woman and Executive Director of QUT’s Carumba Institute. With more than 25 years of experience in Indigenous public health, her scholarship has drawn attention to the role of race, leading the formation of a new field, Indigenous humanities, which is committed to the survival of Indigenous peoples locally and globally, foregrounding Indigenous intellectual sovereignty (ie. Black Knowing). She is a prolific writer and public intellectual, having written for Indigenous X, NITV, The Guardian, and The Conversation and host of popular podcasts ‘Read the Play’ and ‘Wild Black Women’. She is a founding board member of Inala Wangarra and the Institute for Collaborative Race Research, but most importantly, she is also a proud mum to five beautiful children. Her debut book ‘Another Day in the Colony’ was met with critical acclaim and her most recent book ‘Black Thoughts Matter’ published in 2025 is a catalogue of more than a decade of editorials and essays she has authored.
