Patterns of Connection Workshop with Prita Tina Yeganeh

FreeWorkshopsVisual Art
Presented by Brisbane Festival

Create your own visual language. A hands-on introduction to visual storytelling and collective making.

Drawing on her Iranian heritage and Indigenous knowledge systems, Prita's workshop explores the emotional and physical geographies of migration, community and place. Participants will be guided to create lexicons, a visual language, exploring new stories of diasporic life and relationships to place and community.

Participants are invited to create a simple motif inspired by something they notice, value, or feel connected to in their surrounding environment. Using pre-cut geometric shapes and optional hand-drawn marks, each person designs a symbol representing a plant, animal, texture, pattern, or other element of nature.

As each motif is added to a shared community board, it becomes part of a growing visual lexicon. Individually, each symbol represents a personal observation or connection; together, they create a collective story of place, revealing the many ways a community experiences and relates to its local environment.

Suitable for all ages (10+), the workshop requires no previous art experience and offers a welcoming, hands-on introduction to visual storytelling through collective making.
