Current Opportunities

#Artistic Director

Ready to guide Brisbane Festival into our next chapter and continue our legacy of bold, world-class programming?

Based in Queensland, Brisbane Festival is regarded as one of the great multi-arts festivals in Australia, celebrated for its courageous and innovative mix of programming, and its broad engagement and connection with the community.

  • As one of the youngest major arts festivals in the country, Brisbane Festival continues to redefine what an international arts festival can be, drawing an audience of 1.8 million across 23 days in September.
  • With a brief to use the city as a stage, this is a significant opportunity for an accomplished creative leader who is excited and energised to build upon a successful artistic and commercial legacy.

The Brisbane Festival Board seeks an outstanding Artistic Director at an exciting time of change to lead the development and delivery of a vibrant artistic program to shape the future of the Festival and its city, as the state prepares for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Working with the Board and CEO Charlie Cush, the Artistic Director is principally responsible for creating and driving a bold artistic vision and developing a multi-genre annual program which celebrates global relevance and local resonance.

This senior national role requires extensive knowledge of the Queensland, national and international arts landscape, working across a range of genres with the requisite skill, dynamism and ambition to simultaneously achieve tremendous artistic, financial, audience and community outcomes.

This role is unique within the Australian major festival landscape, and several career pathways may lead to it.
