The power of music.
Beacons is a cultural event led by Professor Peter Morris, celebrating music's social impact and Griffith University's three research Beacons: Climate Action, Disrupting Violence, and Inclusive Futures, through performances, interactive music, and inspiring talks.
The evening features a diverse lineup of performers, including the Hummingbird Collective (Indigenous choir), Banksia Beats WA — a music-in-prisons program featuring rappers Scott Griffiths (Optamus), Rush Wepiha, and Joshua 'Flewnt MC' Eggington — and partners from RAD (Real and Diverse Theatre), who champion community, diversity, and disability in the arts.
The event will conclude with the world premiere of a new Griffith graduation processional for orchestra and choir, composed by alumnus Melody Eötvös. This piece incorporates Indigenous dialects from the lands where Griffith’s campuses stand and will be performed at future graduation ceremonies for years to come.
