High art? More like high heART!

Community Choir: The Musical is a heartwarming and hilarious tale written by Emma Dean, set in Brisbane and performed by local community members. Follow the story of a quirky community choir finding themselves accidentally invited to Sydney’s prestigious National Choral Competition. Internal conflicts and personal dilemmas temper their initial excitement. As they grapple with song choices, rivalries, and hidden secrets, their journey takes a fantastical turn with the arrival of the flamboyant ‘Spirit of the Song’. Only one unlikely choir member can see this enigmatic character with the magical ability to reveal people's deepest truths and fears.

With a mix of humour, drama, and catchy original music, this toe-tapping experience directed by Belinda Raisin, explores themes of unity, love and self-discovery.

This production of Community Choir: The Musical is proudly performed by local community members. 95% of the cast are non-professional performers; some have never performed on stage.

Reviews

“Quirky, kooky and a little bit eccentric … that’s just who this breath-taking performer is and everything about her is glorious. As Dean says, sometimes you need to accept that you aren’t a horse… you really are a unicorn”

The Konfetti

“Singer, songwriter and self proclaimed ringmaster Emma Dean is a hobobag full of crazy pills. Like the really awesome hallucinogenic kind…100% addictive”

Cheep Trill

Brisbane / Meanjin

Cheep Trill is a music community creating a safe environment for anyone of any experience and ability to come and explore their creativity and musical expression without feeling judged. It is place to connect with people you may have never had the opportunity to meet, build your community and learn from each other.

We run a weekly community choir (both Southside and Northside of Brisbane), hold adult music theatre and performance workshops, and put on events throughout the year like Choir-aoke (our very own spin on karaoke).

Through Cheep Trill, bands have formed, people have fallen in love, friendships have blossomed, and regular social events have been established. It's really REALLY beautiful.

Corinne Buzianczuk is our coordinator and manager. She is so efficient, one of our students once assumed she was an ‘app’.

Tony Dean is one of our beloved teachers. He has a masters in Vocal Pedagogy and is one of the most talented musicians and producers in Australia. He is also my brother!

And then there’s me. My name is Emma Dean.

I founded Cheep Trill back in 2014 because I needed a change. I spent over a decade striving tirelessly to expose my original music to a broader audience. I even moved to the other side of the world! Somewhere along the way, I forgot why I fell in love with music. After much soul searching, I remembered the reason my musical love affair began. That reason was undeniably and unequivocally human connection. So, at one of the lowest points in my life, I decided to move back to Brisbane and start a community choir. As you do.

And the rest is history…

Each week in our Cheep Trill choir rehearsals, people from all walks of life, backgrounds, religions, genders, ages and beliefs come together and harmonise. This act is as profound as it is joyful, as we are forced to look beyond the things that divide us and to instead focus on the things that unite us.

We sing. We laugh. Sometimes we cry. And we heal… one note at a time.
