A Declan Furber Gillick Yarn (AUS)

"Mr Anand, has your client spent a significant portion of any one week of the last two years at school? Or does he attend school when he feels like it to utilise the free lunch service when none of his family will house, feed or clothe him?”

In a troubled regional town, Chris – a young Aboriginal defendant – has his rap aspirations compete for time with his court appearances as well as meetings with lawyers, psychologists and social workers.

Created and performed by Arrernte man Declan Furber Gillick, Bighouse Dreaming is a provocative and urgent performance that holds an unflinching lens to the justice system, youth prisons and Australian masculinity – black and white.

Winner of three 2018 Melbourne Fringe Awards, including Best Performance, and two 2019 Green Room Awards for Best Writing and Best Ensemble.

This performance contains coarse language and adult themes which some may find confronting. Viewers are warned that this production contains themes relating to state violence against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Suitable for audiences 15+ years.
