28 Sept | South Bank - Cultural Forecourt
Sunsuper Riverfire is a much-loved community event which has been safely taking place across Brisbane's skies for 21 years.
This major civic occasion brings together over half a million people from all over South-East Queensland to celebrate our city. It’s a great unifier, which is even more important in times of adversity.
Brisbane Festival has been working with the Queensland Police, Water Police and key public agencies for months to ensure the event is safe for all patrons, and Sunsuper Riverfire 2019 will proceed as planned.
Sunsuper Riverfire celebrates the end of three weeks of Queensland’s largest arts and cultural event with a pyrotechnic extravaganza set to an almighty soundtrack celebrating 1989, Riverstage's birthday year.
This is one of the most electrifying fireworks displays in Australia, fired by Foti Fireworks Queensland from multiple bridges, barges and city rooftops, with aerobatics from the Australian Defence Force.
Crowds can tune in to Triple M’s live broadcast or Channel Nine’s exclusive television coverage.
Suggested vantage points
Kangaroo Point Cliffs, River Terrace at Kangaroo Point, South Bank, Victoria Bridge, Captain Burke Park, Wilson’s Lookout, Howard Smith Wharves, and the City Riverwalk including the Riverside Centre and Eagle Street Pier all offer good views of the fireworks.
Road, bridge and river closures
For information about road, bridge, and river closures, including permits for spectator vessels, see this page.
The Australian Defence Force aircraft display will include a C 17A Globemaster flypast at 4:20pm and a FA-18 Super Hornet display at 5:30pm, subject to operational requirements and weather conditions.
Svitzer Tug Boats ballet
At 3.30pm, see a popular highlight from Sydney's New Year's celebrations. Two tug boats from Svitzer will perform their romantic 'tug boat ballet' synchronised display on the river, which is best viewed from South Bank locations.
What if it rains?
Sunsuper Riverfire will go ahead as planned, as the Australian Bureau of Meteorology has no current weather warnings which pose an immediate threat, and rain doesn't affect fireworks. Read more in the FAQs here.
